Toxin-free nail polish

I’m so excited to share with you today one of my MOST requested posts…toxin-free nail polish!

I would religiously get gel manicures done every two weeks for years and years, but it’s no secret that our favorite nail colors contain some of the most toxic ingredients around. Put them on your porous nail beds and, well, it’s not such good news.

A quick look at the nasties in some polishes:
Triphenyl phosphate (TPhP): this chemical is used in plastics and as a flame retardant! Linked to neurotoxicity, metabolic disruption, and genotoxicity.
Toulene: a chemical harmful to the liver, kidneys, and lungs.
Formaldehyde: found in so many nail polishes. A carcinogen with a very strong vapor that’s highly toxic and absorbed by inhalation.
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP): known to cause reproductive issues. Did you know it’s even banned in Europe?!

For the past several weeks, I’ve given 2 specific brands a try, and I LOVE them!

  • Zoya: probably my absolutely favorite, with less chipping than other brands
  • ella + mila: so many beautiful colors and works so well with their fast-dry topcoat

Some other brands that I haven’t personally tried yet but pass the toxin-free test include:

Here’s to happy and healthy nails, sweet friends! 🙂
